Project Description:

This project is defined by SPGC-4TH Refinery (Phases 6, 7, and 8 of South Pars Gas Field) for reviewing, calculating, and endorsement of flaring system and flare network of refinery. The scope includes high-pressure and low-pressure flare systems of each phase, as well as LPG flares and export compressor. The flare network of Refinery No. 4 was originally designed based on a feed gas capacity of 3,000 MMSCFD. Later, the capacity has increased to 3,900 MMSCFD and the flare network has not been re-designed or re-validated based on this increased capacity. Furthermore, the connection of the flare network associated with the export compressor facilities was not considered in the initial flare system studies of the refinery.

Accordingly, and for reducing continuous flaring, the feasibility of utilizing nitrogen gas as sweeping gas is to be evaluated. Implementation of this option would result in fuel gas savings, reduction of flaring rates, and decreased environmental emissions.

ANEDCO scope of services includes simulation and sizing of the refinery flare network considering all relief devices, flare network simulation and calculations based on a capacity of 1,300 MMSCFD per phase, and preparation of technical report. In addition to performing simulations and calculations to assess the feasibility of using nitrogen in lieu of fuel gas as sweeping gas as well as basic design of the water seal drum for flare systems, and economic evaluation and feasibility studies of the Project.

Scope of Work:

  • Simulation and hydraulic calculations of the existing flare network for the new feed capacity
  • Simulation and calculations of the flare network based on the use of nitrogen as sweeping gas
  • Basic design of the water seal drum
  • Economic studies and feasibility assessment
